Special covers of Karnataka - 2018

Karnataka Post Circle has released 139 Special Covers during the year 2018. 

Department has released most number of special covers on widely selected themes and beautiful cancellations, which are a great treat not only for philatelists, it would also interest non philatelist in expanding their knowledge about many events of Karnataka and also about International and world days.  

There are many highlights of this year special covers: 

• As the country is celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi this year, Karnataka Postal department under the guidance of CMPG Shri. Charles Lobo brought out 5 special covers on Mahatma Gandhiji's association with Karnataka, more covers are planned. Bapu-150 Philately exhibition with collectibles on Mahatma Gandhi was part of this initiative.      

• Many special covers on Health and Public awareness were released during the year, which include Organ Donation day,World TB Day, World No Tobacco Day, World Rabies Day, World Sight day, World Sepsis Day, Universal Health Coverage Day.

•  Special Covers on Religious events starting from Paryaya of Sri Sri Vidyadheesha Teertha in Udupi, Lakkundi Utsav, Sri Siddeshwar Sankramana Jatra, Prathishta Vardhanti Utsav and the grand event of Shree Bahubali Swamy Mahamasthakabhisheka Mahotsava were released during the year. Total of 10 covers were released on Jainism Theme.

•  Four Special covers including Postcrossing and builder of Bangalore GPO Shri K.R Murthy were released during Postpex-2018, first of its kind philately exhibition.

• Two distinct special covers on Wildlife are Elephant Day special cover made of Elephant dung paper and UV Spot laminated International Tiger day special covers are still much sought after by collectors.Other interesting Nature related covers are Hornbill Conservation Reserve, Biology of butterflies and Kalinga Foundation (King Cobra Conservation).

• Three Bicycle Carried covers were released during National Post week, with Postal employees arriving on Bicycles to GPO from 3 different cities of Channapatna, Tumkur and Kolar was most memorable.

•  Many local Temples, Monuments, Buildings were recognised by release of covers during Mysuru Dasara, Kolarpex and Shimopex.
