Special covers of Karnataka -2019

Karnataka Post has released 135 Special Covers during the year 2019. 

This year many covers on Temples,Religious and Historic place were released. The trend of releasing many covers in district level exhibition started last year with Kolarpex and Shimopex which has continued this year with 25 covers released in Bidarpex-2019 , Bellaripex with 15 covers and the State level Karnapex -2019 held in Mangaluru released 10 covers.   

Continuing on celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi Theme this year 8 covers on Gandhiji’s association with Karnataka were released.  

11 covers on various International, National and World Day covers were issued. On different occasions 5 carried covers were released. , however the Vijayapura Cyclothon (KTK-41-2019) specail cover cannot be considered as carried as it did not have sender’s and receiver’s address nor delivery postmark on the back. it was sold as normal specail cover in all 4 Bureaus of Karnataka. We tried to find a real carried cover in all 4 Bureaus of Karnataka but could not find. Still hoping.  

A Pack of 5 Covers on Bidar - Historic City is beautifully done. Also on few Special Covers of Bellaripex, small motifs are printed on the folding flap of the covers which are nicely potrayed.(KTK-82,83,84 87,89,93 and 94).

Specail Covers on Wildlife - Lion-Tailed Macaque and The Indian spotted Chevrotain

The Lion-tailed Macaque (German name Bartaffe - "beard ape") ranks among the rarest and is classified as endangered as per IUCN Red List 2007 and Wild Life Protection Act 1972 of India. It is distinguished by its silver white mane surrounding its head and is seen in the Western Ghat mountains. It has a black tuft at the end that is similar to a lion's tail.

The Indian spotted Chevrotain (Moschiola Meminna) is often referred to as the "Mouse Deer". It is small, lacking antlers, has well developed canine teeth and is mostly found in the deciduous forests of Western Ghats of India. The mottled markings provide excellent camouflage. The mouse deer communicates through scent marks & vocalizations. The species is placed in Schedule I of the Wild Life Protection Act (1972).
